19.11.08 - Film screening of "the sea was boiling"

This documentary offers an insight into the lives of Chennai's coastal fishing communities following the devastation of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

The world was shocked by the tsunami, and foreign aid agencies and the Indian government flocked to areas like Chennai with relief.

Visiting Chennai more than four years after the tsunami hit, it was clear the quality of life within the fishing communities remained abysmal. So, with all the attention of the Western media attracted by the tsunami and the subsequent relief provided, why weren't things getting any better?

A documentary by Richard Kendall and Gautam Raju
Edited by Linda Maiden

Please note the event will be a fundraiser for the group Friends of Kolkata. A gold coin donation would be appreciated on entry. http://www.friendsofkolkata.org/
